Everything starts as “A Good Idea at the Time”

So, much like many other true lovers and enthusiasts of the Sport of Cycling, my ambitious spirit gets the best of me. Thankfully the majority of the time, some of these impulsive decisions turn into great sources of great humor and at the least, into righteous bragging rights, and in some cases, jealousy.

In my younger years of cycling, I would practically not give a second thought to riding in pretty much any conditions.  Several times I have confronted Wind, Rain, Hail, Sleet, Snow and though a little battered, no worse for the course.  I have commuted to work during the coldest day of the year and caused people to call me "Crazy", others "Brave", all comments taken as positive feedback and seen as jealousy.

These days as a "responsible adult", still with that hardly containable "Unbridled" Spirit, I have softened a little.  Not because I am weak, but because I have learned.  Experience is a precious thing. Experience gets its value in knowledge, learning, but even more so, because of Time. Time well spent, of course in my mind. In other's minds,Time well wasted. Either way Good Time.

So, to start the New Year in good stead, I had promised myself to get out for a ride on my new Winter-Beater.  My new beater is another one of those magazine photos materialized into reality.  Yes, I got me a Borealis Flume.  An awesome and skillfully built Fat Bike for my Winter escapades. No longer do I have to expose myself to riding on the road, in Winter, with drivers that suddenly forget Snow is a regular and intrinsic part of the Season.

Anyway, it all started as a good idea until, I got out there. The first few minutes felt comfortable. But as the ride lengthened, suddenly it wasn’t as comfortable. If there’s one thing I dislike about where I live, it is that I have to drive to get on proper trails.  Nonetheless, I was out and making the most of it. The trail I had chosen to ride, sadly was still not hardened or had a good thick layer of soft snow, which made my ride a little more
